Trinity Nebauer Sydney Stylist Chloe Alaia The Row

What inspired you to become a personal shopper? What do you love about helping people shop and what is the biggest challenge?

Fashion has always been my first great love. However, as life’s sliding doors would have it, I chose to pursue building a company over following my fashion dreams, turning down a job offer with Sportsgirl in my mid-twenties. Fast forward thirty years, with a wealth of business, life, and shopping experience under my belt, I now find myself in a place where I can channel all of those learned skills into personal shopping—helping others refine their style and rediscover their confidence. What I love most about this role is the power of transformation. I believe that life is about constant change and evolution—personally, I am forever evolving, and the day I stop is the day I no longer walk this earth. To witness someone else’s style journey and to play a part in their transformation is a profound privilege. Seeing someone step into a new version of themselves and feel empowered brings me an immense sense of satisfaction. The biggest challenge I’ve observed is encouraging busy individuals, particularly women, to prioritise themselves. In the rush of daily life, it’s far too easy to put personal needs on the back burner. Helping them carve out that time for themselves—to invest in their style, confidence, and well-being—can be both a challenge and a rewarding breakthrough.

How has your style evolved as you've gotten older? What about your style has changed and what has remained the same?
My style is ever evolving. This year, I’ve truly pushed myself to step outside my comfort zone, taking a few style risks that feel refreshingly new for me. Turning 50 brought with it a liberating sense of freedom - the ability to approach fashion with a lighter heart, to not take getting dressed so seriously, and, most importantly, to have fun with it. I’ve always considered myself a bit of a style chameleon. In any given week, I might flow seamlessly from bohemian to minimalist to romantic, depending on my mood and inspiration. What has remained constant, however, is my commitment to quality over quantity. I believe in investing in pieces that endure both in style and craftsmanship. And my love of vintage? That will always be lifelong—timeless treasures with a story will forever hold a special place in my wardrobe.

What is the biggest challenge you think people face in regard to shopping and fashion?

I think one of the greatest challenges people face is having too much in their wardrobes. Many of us feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of clothing we own, making it difficult to see what we actually have or put together outfits with ease. I’m a firm believer that good style begins with a finely tuned, carefully edited wardrobe—clutter only clouds our ability to make clear, confident choices.

Another significant hurdle is time, or the lack of it. Busy lives mean that many people struggle to dedicate time to shop thoughtfully. While we now have access to endless options, navigating this abundance can be both tricky and time-consuming. More and more, I find women—and men—looking for beautifully curated edits that simplify the process and take the guesswork out of dressing.
The key, I believe, is going back to basics: edit your wardrobe, identify what’s missing or in need of an update, and shop with purpose. I always encourage my clients to avoid the dreaded “fashion crisis” shop—that last-minute panic buy often results in pieces that don’t serve them long-term. When approached intentionally, fashion becomes a source of confidence and ease rather than stress or overwhelm.

How do you balance incorporating current fashion trends with selecting timeless pieces that align with the personal style of your clients?

Each client is unique, and their approach to fashion reflects that individuality. Some of my clients aren’t particularly interested in following the latest trends; they know their style and simply want a curated selection of pieces that align with it. Others are far more trend-driven, eager to explore what’s new and current.

Personally, I believe the magic lies in finding a balance. A carefully considered mix of pieces the client already owns, a touch of something new, and a special vintage or preloved find is often the winning formula. This approach ensures that the wardrobe feels fresh and relevant while remaining true to their personal style. Timeless pieces provide the foundation, while trends and vintage accents inject personality, flair, and a sense of individuality.I personally like the mix of pieces the client already owns a touch of new and something vintage / preloved. That is the magic formula for me.

Tips for how men can experiment with their fashion?
For men who are interested in fashion I would suggest watching the men’s runways shows  - they are a great and way to gain insight and inspiration!

What 5 pieces/styles do you think every women should have in their wardrobe?
I don’t necessarily subscribe to the idea of formula dressing or a rigid list of “key” wardrobe pieces. Women today are highly educated and well-informed when it comes to understanding the foundation of a great wardrobe. While staples like the trench coat, white shirt, denim, little black dress, and classic white tee remain timeless, these essentials are always evolving. Styles shift from season to season—trenches, for example, have recently transitioned from a more tailored silhouette to slightly oversized. It’s the thoughtful updating of these basics that keeps a wardrobe looking current and fresh.
What truly elevates a wardrobe, in my opinion, is the addition of unique elements that bring personality and interest to an outfit. Introducing something vintage, playing with texture, and investing in fabulous accessories can completely transform a look. A beautiful bag and a standout pair of shoes, in particular, have the power to elevate even the simplest outfit, creating something memorable and effortlessly stylish.

Top tips for how anyone can be a better shopper?
  1. Edit your wardrobe regularly

  2. Write lists of what needs updating and what is missing

  3. Shop with purpose

  4. Create a style mood board

  5. Good underpinning is going to be your best friend as you get older regardless of our dress size

What are you loving at Parlour X at the moment?
The fact that Eva secured the rights to be the exclusive Australian retailer edit of Phoebe Philo’s collection is an incredible achievement - it’s a real coup, and I’m absolutely obsessed with anything from Phoebe Philo. Her designs embody timeless sophistication and an effortless edge that’s hard to resist.

I’m also loving Parlour X’s buy from The Row. The understated elegance and refined aesthetic of their pieces perfectly capture the essence of quiet luxury, a trend that feels more relevant than ever and is certainly here to stay. Both collections epitomise the kind of enduring style and quality that I truly admire.

Any words of wisdom?
Lead with kindness. Kindness is free - give it generously. Starting out on a new career path in your 50s is not for the faint hearted! With that I have meet a lot of new people - I may not always remember what people were wearing, but their kindness is easily remembered.
