Chopova Lowena
Parlour X is delighted to introduce Chopova Lowena to Australia. Emma Chopova is American-born with Bulgarian parents, and Laura Lowena is from the U.K. They met at Central Saint Martins almost eight years ago after discovering a mutual passion for rejuvenating cultural heritage through the preservation of traditional techniques. Their striking collection includes colourful skirts suspended from thick leather belts dangling with carabiners and key chains, juxtaposing folklore and sportswear with a concentration on sustainability and craft.
Chopova Lowena is well-known for combining traditional Bulgarian workmanship with new forms and materials. Upcycled vintage garments and parts of Bulgarian folklore are frequently included into their collections, resulting in vibrant and unique pieces.
Chopova Lowena is known for its innovative use of reused textiles, especially old Bulgarian fabrics and belts. These features are frequently included into the designers' collections, resulting in one-of-a-kind creations that merge legacy with modernity. Their work demonstrates a commitment to sustainability as well as an understanding of the history and culture of the materials they employ.
Chopova Lowena is renowned for its distinctive use of traditional Bulgarian craftsmanship, blending it with modern silhouettes and materials. They often incorporate upcycled vintage garments and elements of Bulgarian folklore into their collections, resulting in bold and eclectic pieces. Chopova Lowena prefers repurposed textiles, particularly vintage Bulgarian fabrics and belts. The designers often incorporate these elements into their collections, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that blend heritage and modernity. Their work reflects a commitment to sustainability and an appreciation for the history and culture of the materials they use.
Their observation and modernisation of traditional textiles, crafts, and processes define their anthropological approach to design. They smoothly aggregate allusions from Bulgarian folklore to 1980s rock climbing by leveraging nuanced intersections between worlds and themes. They attempt to honour these references while simultaneously creating something truly unique. In order to achieve their artistic vision, they prioritise sustainability by using recycled fabrics and deadstock textiles, frequently in the shape of pillowcases and aprons. Their ethical credo is reflected in their hiring of skilled female artisans in Bulgaria. They are able to generate career possibilities for women who are concerned about revitalising cultural heritage through the preservation of ancient practises by cultivating a community of seamstresses.
