Yves Saint Laurent Australia

Founded in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent was the first couture house to introduce, in 1966, the concept of luxury prêt-á-porter with a collection called “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche”, synonymous of youth and freedom. This shift represented a first critical step in the modernisation of fashion and revolutionized the socio-cultural landscape.

Throughout the years, the House’s groundbreaking styles have become more popular and the collection is now as coveted as ever. The timeless bags include the iconic Lou Quilted Camera bags, mini Puffer bags, Monogramme Envelope Chain wallets, Cardholders, Becky bags, Niki Bags, Carre Box Bag, Kaia Bag, College Bag, Toy South Totes and Pouches.

Select from the range of stylish sunglasses, tops, blouses and logo t-shirts as well as the iconic Tuxedo jackets and blazers. Part of the Kering Group, the House kept true to its identity of absolute modernity and fashion authority. Under the creative direction of Anthony Vaccarello, appointed in April 2016, the House offers today a broad range of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear products, leather goods, shoes, jewellery and eyewear. Through a license agreement, it is also a major force in fragrances and cosmetics. Visit our boutique in Paddington, Sydney Australia or shop online for free next day delivery and returns.

Is Saint Laurent the same as YSL?

Both Saint Laurent and Yves Saint Laurent (also known as YSL) are the names given to pieces from the same fashion house. In 2013, the then-appointed Creative Director Hedi Slimane decided to drop the ‘Yves’ from the ready-to-wear line.

The branding makeover was reportedly inspired by a 1966 collection under the name Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. Although the change was implemented, the iconic Yves Saint Laurent name is still used when referring to the fashion house for institutional purposes. And the iconic YSL logo is still used on certain pieces, including YSL bags in Australia.

Today, the Saint Laurent ready-to-wear collection consisting of shoes, heels, dresses, jackets and more — is recognised at Saint Laurent, with pieces embossed with a Saint Laurent Paris label.

What is Saint Laurent known for?

The history of Saint Laurent begins in Paris in 1962, where Yves Saint Laurent Pierre Bergé founded it. Over the years, he was often referred to as one of the greatest designers of the 20th century.

Credited for changing the way contemporary women present themselves, his designs were known for introducing fluid silhouettes to empower women to adorn structured blazers, trousers and suits. The movement was embraced by ‘70s icons like Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli, with Saint Laurent jackets still much-loved by fans of Saint Laurent in Australia.

From the first collection, heels, sneakers, hats and sunglasses have continuously enhanced the couture creations that hit the runway. And these days, it’s common to spot the iconic YSL bag in Australia while wandering the streets.

Does Saint Laurent run small?

No, Saint Laurent typically runs true to size. However, when shopping for YSL shoes, it's important to consider the design and narrowness. For example, Saint Laurent sneakers are true to size, but for heels with a closed and pointed toe, it could be beneficial to go up half a size.
