What have you been up to since 2021, which is when you spoke to X-files last?
Wow, so much change since 2021. For a start, we opened a brand new salon in the QVB and introduced the first-ever hair facial to Australia, which has been such an amazing ride. At the same time, we launched our signature scent, Nero Palo Santo, which had been in the works for years, so that was a huge accomplishment. Another major change has been making the move to solo representation after many great years with my agent. This journey is only just beginning, and I can’t wait to see what comes in the future!
What inspired you to first get started in the hairdressing industry?
I always loved the beauty industry. Growing up and watching international fashion shows with artists like Guido creating magic truly inspired me to get into the industry.
What do you think sets your approach to hair apart from others?
My style is bespoke, which separates me from the pack. I look at hair differently, visualising silhouettes and contributing to a story. I love a more deconstructed look and highlighting natural beauty.
What have been some of your career highlights to date?
Working alongside Sam McKnight in Milan on the Moschino Show was truly special for me. I have long admired his work and talent!
What have been some of your favourite clients or collaborations?
There are too many to list, but I had such a great time creating magic with Romance Was Born at this last AAFW.
Are you working on any new projects or initiatives?
This year I am heading up KODA'S first Paris residency during fashion week in September - stay tuned!
How do you stay inspired and creative in your work?
Lots of different things keep me inspired, but I tend to travel a lot and appreciate other artists at work. I also draw so much inspiration from fashion, art and music.
How do you balance staying true to your own artistic vision while also meeting the needs and desires of your clients?
This is a fine art! I keep my cards close when it comes to my clients, never giving too much away before we have seen the end result. I have a unique style and that attracts clients who have a similar appreciation. So, people usually come to me already drawn to what I am known best for. Then, obviously, client needs are a priority—and that’s at the forefront of all decisions made thereafter!
What is an amazing place you visited recently - and what is still on your travel bucket list?
I just went to Rome for the first time ever and was blown away… I'm itching to get back there ASAP! On the bucket list… The Maldives.
What are some of your favourite bars, restaurants, galleries and spots in Sydney? Where would you take a first-time visitor?
The Charles is in the city. It's sexy and sophisticated, and they make the best deconstructed martinis. As a first-time visitor, I would have to take to the Caterpillar Club or Huberts to watch the jazz and have one of the best burgers in Sydney!
How do you relax, find balance and fill your cup?
Spending time with my family, whether on a camping trip or just hanging out at the beach together, really brings out the best in me.
How would you describe your personal style? What about this approach works for you?
I would say my style is classy with an edge. I love to wear classic pieces like a silk dress, and then elevate it into a look that is my own by adding a cool boot and chunky jewellery. This works because I show off my personality while still working with timeless pieces that I will have for a lifetime!
What is on your Parlour X wishlist?
The Row Vika Knot Strap, the Plan C Crewneck Panel Knit in Bordeaux with matching Plan C wide-leg trouser, and Plan C wide-leg trouser, finished with the Alaia One Piece Medium Fishnet Mesh Hobo bag in Black. A whole outfit right there ;)
